First Impressions

Amanyara is easily my favourite hotel in Turks and Caicos. It occupies an extraordinary coastal setting and has the space, quiet and sense of seclusion that people travel a long way to find.

Few resorts can keep guests happily on the property for several days without creating restlessness. Amanyara is one of them. There is enough dining variety, sport, wellness and access to the ocean to fill each day, but nothing about the experience feels busy or programmed.

The resort allows guests to be as active or inactive as they choose, which is one of its greatest strengths.

Setting

Amanyara sits on the northwest tip of Providenciales, along an isolated stretch of coastline with almost nothing else around it. The reef is close enough to swim to, and the sea passes through every shade of turquoise before deepening into blue further offshore.

The pavilions and villas are widely spaced, preserving the landscape and giving each one a genuine sense of seclusion. The architecture is sophisticated and restrained, allowing the island rather than the buildings to dominate the experience.

I particularly enjoyed watching the sunset from the large daybeds at the open air bar, with cocktails and a game of backgammon. It was a wonderfully romantic setting.

Arrival

The journey to Amanyara reinforces its remoteness. The final roads are quiet and removed from the usual island circuit, creating a gradual sense of leaving everything else behind.

The team was waiting with welcome drinks when we arrived. There was no formal reception routine or unnecessary paperwork, and check in felt personal, relaxed and distinctly Aman.

The Room

We stayed in the Amanyara Pavilion, which would be my first choice if it’s available. There is only one, and it combines a private pool with direct ocean views and immediate access to the water.

Large rocks in front of the pavilion felt like an extension of the accommodation, and we could jump directly from them into the sea. Although this stretch of coastline is shared with the neighbouring ocean pavilions, it felt remarkably private.

We had originally booked a Deluxe Pool Pavilion but decided to move. The private pool was appealing in theory, yet the room felt more enclosed and bare than expected. It photographed better than it presented in person and lacked a strong sense of place.

My recommendation is  to prioritise an ocean view over a private pool unless the chosen category offers both. The water is the principal reason to stay at Amanyara, and seeing it from the room transforms the experience. If the Amanyara Pavilion is unavailable, I would choose an ocean facing pavilion rather than one surrounded by vegetation.

The interiors are simple and slightly dated in places. The bathtubs are small, the windows can fog because they are not double glazed and several finishes are ready for refurbishment. However, the accommodation does not need elaborate decoration. With the right outlook, its restraint works and directs attention outside.

Dining

Amanyara has two restaurants and one bar, but the selection never felt limited. The Restaurant offers several distinct seating areas and serves sushi and other Asian inspired dishes, while The Beach Club provides a more relaxed setting for Mediterranean plates, wood fired pizza and grilled seafood. Regular themed evenings add further variety.

Food quality was consistently strong. Breakfast was particularly good, with a generous selection and plenty of healthy choices. Staff also distribute a daily newsletter with a crossword, a thoughtful detail that suits the resort’s unhurried rhythm.

Given the cost of dining, I recommend booking a meal package when available. We stayed on a full board basis, which made the experience feel considerably better value.

Guests with dietary requirements or requests for specific ingredients should contact the hotel before arrival. Importing certain products into Turks and Caicos can be difficult, but the team made a genuine effort to accommodate us. We requested halloumi, and although they could not source it in time, they clearly tried.

Amanyara also offers private dining on the beach or rocks, often accompanied by a bonfire. Our dinner was well executed, and the kitchen prepared several recipes exactly as we had requested. However, it was not as memorable as the destination dining we experienced at Belmond Splendido.

The resort is already so scenic that paying extra for a romantic backdrop may not be necessary. In our case, the outlook was not significantly different from the view beside our pavilion. I would consider the experience for a celebration or if staying in accommodation without direct access to the coast, but otherwise it is not essential.

The clarified cocktails were excellent and are well worth ordering.

Facilities and Activities

Amanyara offers far more to do than its peaceful atmosphere initially suggests. Sporting facilities include padel courts, pilates studio, boxing studio and four floodlit tennis courts.

The beach provides access to kayaking, Hobie Cat sailing, snorkelling and other water activities. Hobie Cat sailing was a highlight, as was the snorkelling excursion, which involved a short boat trip to one of the nearby reefs.

The spa is arranged around a calm pond and has its own separate pool. The setting is beautiful and serene, although our massage was fairly average.

The private cinema is an excellent option for a rainy day. Guests can choose a film and have the room prepared with champagne and cookies, with a popcorn machine available throughout the screening.

The main pool is equally attractive and was exceptionally quiet during our visit. At times, it felt as though we were the only guests at the resort.

Every room is provided with a golf buggy, making it easy to move around the expansive property. Bicycles are also left outside each room.

Service

Service was very good overall, although not flawless.

The Amanyara Pavilion includes dedicated butler service. Two butlers rotated during our stay, ensuring that one was generally available while still allowing us to build a relationship with both. Requests were handled through WhatsApp, which made arranging meals, activities and transport straightforward.

Most requests were managed well, but messages were not always answered within a reasonable time. One lunch server was also rude on two occasions. Neither issue materially affected our stay, although both fell below the standard expected at this price.

The General Manager was excellent. He was visible, engaged and clearly invested in the guest experience, which said a great deal about the culture of the resort.

We also appreciated not being asked to sign bills throughout the stay. It made the experience feel less transactional, and there is something quietly luxurious about a hotel trusting its guests enough not to require a signature every time they order something.

Amanyara is a remote island resort, and its service should not be judged exactly like that of a leading city hotel. Even allowing for the location, however, communication and courtesy should be consistent.

Would I Stay Again?

Absolutely. Amanyara is one of the best resort experiences I have had, and I would return without hesitation.

Final Thoughts

Amanyara understands that luxury in this setting is about space, seclusion and a close connection to the sea. It does not need to overcomplicate the experience.

Some accommodation needs refurbishment, and service has occasional gaps, but neither issue meaningfully diminished our stay. The strength of the setting, combined with good food and enough to do for an extended visit, makes the resort exceptionally compelling.
